Diwali 2012

This Year We celebrated Diwali in a great style.

We indulged ourselves in the true Diwali Spirit!

Krishna Handcrafted the Traditional Diwali Lantern. The Lantern took one whole week and was a meticulously crafted by Krishna everyday even after a tedious day at work! Pratham was always around to help him when he needed scissors or glue. The end result was a perfectly symmetrical and colourful Lantern which was a sight for sore eyes!! Atta Boy Krishna!

We prepared Traditional Sweets. Preparations were on from the week before Diwali. The items included Tikhat(spicy) Shankarpali and Phoa Chivdo. But we made 3 items on Diwali eve!! yup! and those were God(sweet) Shankarpali,Pita Guli(Laddoo) and Chakli.

On Diwali day, Shraddha and Krishna applied oil to Pratham. It was deja vu!! as we reminisced how we massaged him as a baby and his antics then!! After hot water baths, we prepared 5 types of Pho(Puffed Rice) as is tradition. This was offered as Naivedya (food offering to God) along with the sweets. Krishna Gifted Shraddha a Necklace Set during the Arati. After the Arati, all of us sat down for a heavy breakfast!!

Evening was celebrated with a little lakshmi pooja. Shraddha put some rangolis near the doorstep and Krishna Lit a Lamp. We decorated all our balconies with decorative lights and of course our Lantern took the centre place!! Pratham wanted it in his balcony and that's where it was installed. The house thus fully lit, we went off for a round of crackers! We had bought a carton full of crackers. This year Pratham enjoyed lighting sparklers, Jameen Chakra and Fountains!! We did not buy bombs frankly because we dont see them as enjoyable or for that matter safe. even then we had a little incident of a Fountain bursting on Krishna's Hand while he was lighting it with an agarbatti!! Thank god nothing but a few hairs got signed!!!

Pratham drew and painted a Diwali Picture! It was a project going on for a few days before Diwali  but he completed the majority of the painting on Diwali afternoon.

Here are some snapshots of our Great Diwali.
